CDR SENIOR DIRECTOR, STRATEGY (Open to Remote)

Summary

The Senior Director, Strategy, partners with teams at CDR that support client success. The Senior Director ensures that all programs, plans, and other activities align with a deep understanding of our client’s business and strategic objectives, acting as a trusted advisor to internal teams and clients alike. Through a marriage of data analysis and experience, they will identify opportunities for program growth and improvement that reflect a keen understanding of how organizations and constituents interact, bringing insights into action and developing strategic recommendations that directly translate to the goals of the client.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads donor analysis and translates to meaningful strategic action on behalf of clients.
  • Develops trusted relationships with key client contacts and internal team members.
  • Ensures that meaningful client value is delivered through a mix of best-practice solutions, original thinking, nimbleness, and outcomes.
  • Builds growth scenarios; integrating donor and channel trends and investments to illustrate impact of short- and long-term investments and corresponding strategic roadmap.
  • Builds fiscal year budgets and actively pursues strategies to achieve budgeted goals and long-range growth scenario projections.
  • Builds segmentation recommendations for each campaign and intersects with partner agencies as needed when modeling is involved. Develops model implementation plans and recommendations for audiences and campaigns.
  • Collaborates with team leadership and partner agencies to turn ideas into executable plans.
  • Supports client services in building and reviewing the campaign strategy briefs to ensure each campaign is aligned to achieve annual performance goals for the client.
  • Manages progress to goals and, in concert with the client services team, identifies adjustments to strategy may be needed.
  • Identifies key data points and measurements to exhibit the impact of our approach and strategy on the client’s business.
  • Intersects with acquisition team leads (broker, agency, and internal teams) to steer and support audience acquisition strategies that mirror the short- and long-term program goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including participation in sales activities.

Skills:

  • Depth of fundraising experience with direct mail is a must, including knowledge of all channels and how they intersect in a donor’s experience and growth goals.
  • A deep understanding of the nonprofit industry, including perspectives on how the following influence program strategy is a must.
    • Structural, cultural, and sector differences.
    • Program differences (scope and framework).
    • Donor behavior.
    • Marketing strategies and tactics to engage donors (for different goals).
  • Expertise in using data to drive decisions. A high-level proficiency in Excel and experience working with other data visualization/reporting tools required.
  • Exceptional and persuasive written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with clients and senior level executives. 
  • Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to create meaningful, consumable insights appropriate for different audiences.
  • A highly collaborative approach, high emotional intelligence and refined communication skills needed to foster strong and lasting internal and external relationships.
  • A growth mindset and adaptability required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a creative and resourceful problem solver.
  • Self-motivated with high intellectual curiosity, drive, determination, and persuasion skills.
  • A willingness to incorporate both internal and external feedback.
  • Proven sound and accurate judgement; is willing and able to make well-thought out yet timely recommendations; able to explain and support those recommendations; seeks advice of others and includes appropriate personnel in the process.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, outstanding organizational, time management and planning expertise.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in direct response marketing.
  • 7+ years working in an agency or consulting firm.
  • Experience with direct mail and acquisition strategies. Perspective and experience steering or developing online/offline strategies to address direct response fundraising program goals.
